Narcolepsy is a strange disorder, it causes people to just drop off to sleep involuntarily and at inopportune times, like when they might be using a chainsaw or flying a hang-glider .

What if God had Narcolepsy? What if every now and again the Majesty in Heaven dozed off for a moment in His comfy chair, then woke quickly to check if he had dribbled in His beard wondering what has transpired during His catnap?
If God took a nap for a second and lost track of things in the universe it would be bad news for us. According to the Bible God holds every atom in its place at all times > Colossians 1:17 says “He is before all things, and in him all things hold together”. If He slumbered, everything that exists would evidently come unglued. Think of it, all of creation dis-integrating during a divine narcoleptic incident.
Sometimes it feels like God takes naps and isn’t aware of our troubles, our pain and the state of the world in general. Sometimes it feels like God must not care too much or He would DO SOMETHING. Sometimes it feels like He’s not even there…
The reality of things is that feelings often betray truth relationally, emotionally, and spiritually. Here’s what God says about His sleep patterns.
Psalm 121
I lift up my eyes to the hills--(from New International Version)
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.He will not let your foot slip--
he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.The LORD watches over you--
the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
This is an excellent meditation to pack inside your heart for the times when we suspect narcolepsy might have overtaken the Almighty. He is awake to our joys, our pains and our planet - the King is watching over His children and loves them with a mighty love.
