Elevation Tattoo Series Environment

Chuckk at Elevation smaller.JPG

The Official Elevation Launch last Sunday was a blessing and a blast. Omar and the band rocked so hard it knocked the porcelain off the potties in the adjacent bathrooms! Worship happened, people were engaged in the teaching time and there were lots of good vibes, smiles and nods. 167 people turned out for the evening. 26 people came out afterwards for AfterHours to spend some post service time together.

Andrea and her environment team made the tattoo parlor inspired big red environment wonderful. They even went so far as to spray green-soap in the air to give the room the smell of a tattoo parlor as people arrived.

You can hear the message Tattoo: Marked for Life - Marked By Jesus at the Elevation website (we'll have every week's teaching online there and at iTunes). You can get to our site at www.elevationSC.org - look under Media. Also check out the skimboard photo art of Kerry Carpenter in our Media tab.

BUMMER, this week some alien robots from Pluto ( which is evidently not a planet anymore) introduced distortion into our sacred recording devices, it's still listenable but parts are distorted a bit. We will kill all alien robots this Sunday.

This week's message: Jesus, Marked by us...

On the iPod:

How I feel

Man I feel just tired right now.
Photo 3.jpg
The church I work at just had to laid-off 6 workmates (and friends) and gave pay cuts to 5 of the other staff members. Finances suck right now and even after cutting ministry budgets and tightening our collective belts for months we're in a sketchy place with dollars. It's difficult to be starting a new ministry at a time like this. Even some of your friends and workmates wonder why we're doing what you're doing while others are being laid off- a bit of a bummer of a place to be really. Starting something new and less conventional is difficult even when it's the right thing to do and you know God has called you to it. I even heard that some Christian bros from another local church don't like what we're doing at Elevation and that they are praying against it... nice one. Christians are a unified and gracious lot. Anyways God is blessing the work at Elevation in the midst of the difficulties and we'll keep going forward, all I need is a nice cigar and some time with Jesus on the back deck and I'm ready to go after it again tomorrow. Keep SCBC in your prayers, it's a hard season but God is up to something.

Podcasts Up

We now have the first 2 Messages from the Tattoo: Marked for Life Series up n running at the media section on our website-- (we also have the first 2 TestDrive messages up there).

Note: Alien robots attacked and distorted one of the messages, we have killed them and the problem is now fixed.

Tomorrow night I'll be diverting from our Tattoo series for one week. I'll be preaching a special sermon connected to some big news being announced @ SCBC.

Resignation

Today Dean Bouzeos, Senior Pastor @ SCBC resigned. Dean is an excellent honorable man of God's Word and Spirit. I'll miss his encouragement in my life and ministry. There will be an interesting period of change going on at SCBC, pray along with me for God to show Himself as He is - GREAT!
Tonight at Elevation I'll be sharing a special message on how we, as one body heal, grow and even thrive in this new season at SCBC. God is doing something unique so come listen, worship and begin to heal with us. No spin no pep talk just an honest to goodness pastor's heart filled with hope and trust in the excellent God I serve.
Tomorrow night @ 6pm there will be an all-church huddle where the Elders will give us some more detail on where God is leading.

Hurt? Listen.

CIMG2411.JPG
So SCBC is a church with some hurt after the resignation of our Senior Pastor Dean Bouzeos, the loss of 6 friends in our staff and budget cuts to ministry & staff salaries. We had the Huddle meeting last Monday and it was tough - but a good chance for the family to get together and vent and ask Q's and listen a bit.

In the effort to help with the healing I delivered a different kind of message last week, one that was not in our the Tattoo series. If you are a person wondering how a church family heals after a painful and difficult situation listen in to the message "The Body is One".

Gasping for Air.

hospital.jpg
Gasp! I woke up this morning and found my wife having a HUGE asthma attack so we rapidly progressed from living-room to the urgent care center to the emergency room to being admitted to the hospital. So here we sit in Dominican Hospital after 3 horrible asthma episodes that left my wife with crazy high blood pressure levels, gasping for air and on the verge of passing out. The normal treatments that usually send her home after an hour haven't worked and so they say they'll be keeping us for a couple of days or maybe through the weekend.

We have had an otherworldly series of rhino-sized problems since we set off on the Elevation expedition -- we must be doing something right.

It would be easy to be gasping for air spiritually right now, but somehow we're really just a bit spiritually winded at worst today, God is so grace giving. I hope to continue to stay somewhere above gasping for spiritual air. Strange how you can be only slightly winded at major things but be SUCKING AIR BIG TIME on the small things on some days. I am reminded how much I need Jesus to be able to breath easy with regard to emotions.

So pray for Andrea to be well enough to come home soon, for our sketchy minimal medical insurance to pay for much more than we expect it to and for me to get the chance to finish the sermon for this Sunday night in the midst of all the festivities.

Hangin"

Sick smaller .jpg
So we're hanging at the hospital for at least another day - Andrea's heart rate is high and won't come down so they won't release her at this point. She's breathing better though so that's a praise report but the heart thing is a new thing to figure out before she can go home. Will you pray specifically they can get to the root of this new "weed" in our garden.

Home

Andrea's heart-rate FINALLY slowed to a near normal level this morning and so we got to come home. We're wiped but happy to be out of the hospital. She'll need to lay low for a day or two but we'll be at Elevation tomorrow night to worship and I'll be speaking about how we are Tattooed by God's Grace. If you are part of the wounded SCBC body come be refreshed and heal with us. Thanks to all for prayer, texts, flowers, meals, coffee, phone calls and love.

The New Protestant Diaspora

Guess what? Protestant flavored Christianity is on the decline, (insert fake gasp)who would have guessed?!?... Are we paying attention yet? The stats are consistently showing what the "seat of the pants" and vote "with their feet" polls have been suggesting for years. Read all about it HERE.

If what we're doing isn't engaging folks in this postmodern age it may be time to smell the shade grown freetrade coffee and re-enculture our forms to connect with people. Timeless truth doesn't change but time-based worship forms and culture based traditions must.

It's an EXCITING time to be in ministry, charge friends, seize the day for the Kingdom of the Great One! Join the HolyExperiment of this 21st century.
